This week is the last of the “Stalled” podcast series we’ve been featuring leading up to the launch of the new book Stalled: Hope and Help for Pastors Who Thought They’d Be There By Now. And what an incredible launch we had earlier this week!
One of the key aspects of the “Stalled” message is the understanding that our Enemy wants to keep leaders discouraged not just to limit our effectiveness today. But ultimately to keep us from effectively engaging the next generation.
Today, we walk through 4 key principles for leaders to consider when it comes to capturing the heart of the next generation, building trust, and standing in the gap for them. Tune in and let us know what you’d add to the conversation!

Here are the 4 principles we cover today:
- A generation transfer doesn’t happen automatically. We see this all throughout Scripture. It only happens if we’re intentional.
- Reaching the next generation requires change. And that change has to be deeper than Sunday. We’ve seen progress here from a lot of churches, but in order to reach a new generation with unique perspectives, it’s going to take new and unique methods.
- The satisfaction of the old can’t replace the transformation of the new. There’s always an element of church that is meant to edify, build up, and connect the saints. But if we only drink old wine (insider-focus), eventually we’ll get to a place where we have no wine.
- You have to trust the next generation more than you do today. This is absolutely crucial. We see young people all the time who are limited from utilizing their gifting simply because of their age. Give them space to exercise their gifts, to fail, and to be intentionally developed.
