The Gospel Care Collective (w/ Jason Kovacs) – Episode 299

Jason Kovacs, of the Gospel Care Collective, joins Dale on today’s 95Podcast to discuss the emotional, mental, and spiritual health of ministry leaders. The Gospel Care Collective was started to provide counseling, consulting, and Biblical counseling training to individuals and churches. With over 20 years of leadership experience in the church and non-profits, they specialize in serving pastors and ministry leaders around the world. They are a Training Center with the Association of Biblical Counselors, a member of the Biblical Counseling Coalition, and a member of the Society for Christian Psychology.

The Gospel Care Collective states four values that explain their focus:

1 – Christ-Centered: We do not offer a system or a three-step process for change, but a person, a Redeemer, Jesus Christ. Through his life, death, resurrection, and ascension, Jesus has forever dealt with our sin and perfectly shown the depths of God’s love for His children.

2 – Clinically-Informed: We are not reductionistic or secular in our approach but rather interpret the complexity of the human condition (body & soul) through the comprehensive Biblical story.

3 – Church-Partnering: God has forever existed in the community of Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, and we, as His image bearers, are designed to live and thrive in community.

4 – Community-Renewing: We aim to provide a level of care that enables everyone experiencing it to be equipped to live on the mission God has called them to locally and globally and to see our communities renewed by the power of the gospel.

The conversation is filled with great wisdom on our need to learn how to rest in the Father’s presence.

Key Takeaways

1) I learned from my father an “optimistic” view of things, which helped me to develop as a peace-maker at all costs.

2) Jesus got away with His three closest friends to transparently communicate to the Father how overwhelmed He was feeling at the moment in the Garden of Gethsemane.

3) Seeking out help through counseling should never be another “to-do” to be added to your already busy schedule.

4) One of the greatest discoveries any leader can realize is to understand that Jesus is more interested in who you are than in what you do.
